Join us for traditional and contemporary worship: for dramatic dialogues or inspiring preaching on issues of the day in light of the Gospel of Christ.  Listen to the wonderful Casavant pipe organ, the Sydenham Street Choir, or the grand piano.  Connect with timeless church music or some jazz or African-American spirituals.  Find a moment of peace in our church community.

Introducing  Reverend Elizabeth Macdonald

Rev. Elizabeth Macdonald accepted the call to Sydenham Street United Church in 2002, having been drawn to  Sydenham Street UnitedRev. Elizabeth MacDonald Church’s choice to be an Affirming Congregation. She also found its long standing commitments to worship & music, and outreach & social justice to be a good match for her. The rich heritage of an historic old stone church in downtown Kingston provided an additional appeal. But it is the congregation’s willingness to engage in serious discernment of God’s call into renewed identity and mission, and then to take the necessary leap of faith into the emerging vision that has become so compelling for Elizabeth and keeps her energized.

Elizabeth has been actively involved other levels of the United Church, and is also committed to ecumenical and inter-faith initiatives primarily in the area of social justice and the arts.

In June 2010, Elizabeth celebrated her 25th Anniversary of Ordination. She has served congregations in rural Manitoba, Cambridge Ontario, the GTA and downtown Toronto. Her studies at the Centre for Christian Studies, Emmanuel College and Episcopal Divinity School in Cambridge Massachusetts have shaped her theology and practice of ministry.

Elizabeth’s partner, the Reverend Dr. Nan Hudson, also a United Church minister, is Executive Director of ICA Canada. Since moving to Kingston, they have, with congregational support that is deeply appreciated, made three pilgrimages.  In 2002 they travelled to Iona, and in 2006 to Assisi and Rome. In 2008 they walked 800km of the Camino de Santiago. In the summer of 2010 their family grew to include a Corgi puppy named Olwen who, daily, brings increased exercise and unlimited exuberance into their lives!
